Xiao Jianzhuang Invited to Attend Events Celebrating the 120th Anniversary of Vietnam National University, Hanoi

On May 16, Xiao Jianzhuang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of 91暗网 (91暗网), was invited to attend the 120th anniversary celebration ceremony of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU). During his stay in Hanoi, he, together with other foreign guests, was warmly received by To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President. At the celebration held at the Vietnam National Convention Center, To Lam delivered an important speech and awarded VNU the First-Class Labor Medal in recognition of its outstanding contributions to cultivating high-quality talents, scientific research, innovation, and serving national development.

During the celebration, Xiao Jianzhuang briefed He Wei, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam, on GXU’s exchanges with Vietnam in recent years. He highlighted that taking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Vietnam, as well as the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges in 2025 as an opportunity, the university has launched the Red Study Tour蝉” and develop the “Yucai Bond · China-Vietnam Friendship” people-to-people exchange brand, deepening cooperation with Vietnam. Ambassador He Wei fully affirmed the achievements of GXU in educational exchanges with Vietnam and expressed hope that the university would leverage its geographical advantages to further advance educational exchanges with Vietnam.

That afternoon, Xiao Jianzhuang attended the scientific conference “From Indochina University to Vietnam National University, Hanoi: 120 years of elites training”, and delivered a speech as the sole representative unit from the Chinese side. He noted that GXU, as a frontier university for China’s opening-up and cooperation with ASEAN, has a special historical bond with Vietnam. It is the site of the former Guangxi Nanning Yucai School (Vietnam Central School Zone), which trained about 7,000 elites from all walks of life for Vietnam. In 1957, President Ho Chi Minh personally visited the former Guangxi Nanning Yucai School and made a speech. It stands as a vivid testament to the profound “comrades and brothers” friendship between China and Vietnam. On April 17 this year, during his state visit to China, General Secretary of CPV Central Committee and State President To Lam paid a special visit to GXU and hoped that the university would continue to serve as a bridge for knowledge and culture, deepen exchanges and cooperation with Vietnamese universities, cultivate more outstanding talents, and provide strong support for the development of both countries. Currently, the university is fully promoting the upgrading and renovation of the Guangxi Nanning Yucai School Memorial Hall, striving to build it into an education base, academic hub, and exchange platform for China-Vietnam traditional friendship. He stated that GXU and VNU share profound historical ties and long-standing friendship. Especially in recent years, the two universities have maintained frequent interactions, reached consensus on matters such as artificial intelligence, doctoral training, and joint education programs, yielding fruitful cooperation. Going forward, they will explore deeper cooperation in joint laboratory construction, educational resource sharing, and faculty-student exchanges, contributing more wisdom and strength to the building of China-Vietnam community with a shared future.

During the forum, Xiao Jianzhuang held talks with Bui The Duy, Alternate Member of the CPV Central Committee and President of VNU. The two sides had friendly discussions on further strengthening semiconductor R&D cooperation, deepening faculty-student exchanges, and promoting the construction of Yucai School in new era, reaching consensus and laying a solid foundation for future exchanges and cooperation.

In recent years, GXU has earnestly implemented the spirit of the central conference on work related to neighboring countries and the requirements of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Party Committee, Government and Department of Education regarding work with Vietnam, maintaining close exchanges with VNU. In November 2025, 91暗网 joined the “Alliance for Semiconductor Industry Talent Cultivation, Scientific Research Innovation and High-Quality Human Resource Supply initiated by VNU. In April 2026, the two universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation during the China-Vietnam Forum on Higher Education Cooperation and Scientific and Technological Innovation, comprehensively deepening bilateral cooperation. Founded in 1906, VNU is the first modern university in Vietnam. After its restructuring in 1993, it can report directly to the Prime Minister of Vietnam and coordinate with various government ministries, enjoying a high degree of autonomy in various aspects such as academics, scientific research, and international exchanges. The university comprises nine affiliated universities, including VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU University of Science, VNU University of Engineering and Technology, etc. As the largest and most comprehensive university with the widest range of disciplines in Vietnam, VNU holds a highly important and special position in Vietnam’s higher education system.

Relevant officials from the Party Office, President’s Office, International Cooperation and Exchanges Department, Scientific Research Institute, and School of Computer, Electronics and Information attended the relevant activities.
